Voneus Village Cup 2024 entries open!

From the get-go, the game featured ups and downs with a shaky start from Milford Hall, saved by Mark Thompson who pulled his side into three figures. Then, just when it looked like Leeds & Broomfield were going from strength to strength, Aaron Afford, bowler and player of the match made them wobble. A spirited 77-run comeback from Leeds & Broomfield’s Alex Czabaniuk and James Mitchinson, was soon dismissed by Chris Dean returning to attack. Stuart Phazey then piled on the pressure with a maiden before Thompson and Afford secured victory for Milford Hall. 

This win left Milford Hall as the 36th side and the first West Midlands regional champion to lift the Village Cup. Delighted with their achievement, Captain Dan Betty said “I still can’t really believe it, it was a fantastic day from start to finish. We fought for our lives to defend whatever we’d set, and that’s exactly what we did. I’m so proud of each and every member of the squad.” 

On the other side of the battle, Leeds & Broomfield’s captain, Ed Scrivens, found it “tough to take” losing such a close match, but said “to lead my village side out at the Home of Cricket is one of the proudest moments of my life”. 

The excitement for the 2024 Voneus Village Cup has already begun! Entries are now officially open. We look forward to welcoming every team to the Village Cup next year with what will hopefully be a bigger and better tournament than ever! We are also looking forward to welcoming Milford Hall back. Will they defend their title and remain champions?
