The Snowman (1982)

The Snowman is a classic British film based on the 1978 picture book of the same name by English illustrator, cartoonist, graphic novelist and author, Raymond Briggs, CBE.

Many may be familiar with the central song “Waling in the Air”.

The short film covers the story of a young boy who creates a magical snowman on Christmas day, and their journey to meet Santa Claus.

Love Actually (2003)

Staring the who’s who of British cinema including, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightly and the late great Alan Rickman, it’s not Christmas if you’re not cosied up, laughing and sobbing to the 2003 classic brought to us by Richard Curtis.

Scrooge (1970)

Scrooge is a musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ 1843 story ‘A Christmas Carol’, the film follows the journey of a cynical man named Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

It is a classic festive tale that reminds us of the importance of compassion in life.

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

Perhaps Scrooge is a bit too dark, or you have young ones who you need to entertain.

That’s where The Muppet Christmas Carol steps in giving a colourful mix of Dicken’s classic with a cast of the most famous puppets in Hollywood, and according to GQ it’s ‘the greatest film ever made’.

Nativity (2009)

Since its release in 2009, Nativity provides us with an annual dose of nostalgia – the joy of being in a primary school Christmas production.

The film follows Paul, a primary school teacher tasked with producing the annual school nativity play. During the process Paul shares a harmless lie to an opponent at a rival school claiming that a Hollywood producer would be attending his performance leading to a series of laughter inducing chaos.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Is it a Christmas film or a Halloween film?

Well, Tim Burton takes us on a surprisingly festive journey through Jack Skellington a resident from Halloween Town, who stumbles upon Christmas Town and becomes so obsessed with the festivities that he kidnaps Santa Claus.

Klaus (2019)

As a punishment for deliberately underperforming at the postman training academy, Jesper the spoiled son of the Royal Postmaster General is sent to the distant town of Smeerenburg with the task of posting 6,000 letters in the space of a year.

While searching for residents to deliver letters to he stumbles across a reclusive woodsman named Klaus.

The film follows the formation of an’ unlikely friendship, delivering joy to a cold, dark town that desperately needs it.’

It’s a Wonderful Life (1946)

A Christmas classic and a must watch, this 1946 film directed by Frank Capra follows the journey of George Bailey, a man with many problems who is considering taking his life during Christmas.

Before choosing to jump off a bridge he saves a man who turns out to be his guardian angel, Clarence, who presents George with a visual of the positive impact his life has had on his community over the years.

Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

Another Christmas classic from 40s, this film follows the story of Kris Kringle an old man who fills in the shoes off an intoxicated Santa in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

As a result, he becomes loved and adored so much that he appears regularly in Macy’s main store window, however when he starts to approach staff and customers claiming that he is the real Santa Clause, it leads to a court case to determine the state of his mental health.

Home Alone (1990)

The 1990 classic that started the Home Alone Christmas film series, follows the adventure of a young Kevin McCallister who is left behind by his family and embarks on his own festive trip, as he defends his family home from two thieves until his family returns.
